Misclassified Restaurants in Search Engines

We don’t go out to dinner all that often and when we do, we visit the same places. When we want to look for some place new, we do online searches or use sites like Yelp! Unfortunately, it seems that the results I get are not all that helpful. My wife asked me what kind of food I’d like for our anniversary dinner next week and I said Cuban food. I did a search on Google and came up with:

Cubanrestaurants

While I’d like to think that this is a fluke, I tried the search again today and got the same result. I’m not sure why I have so many problems looking for restaurants. Maybe all the tools out there are lacking complete, up to date, and honest information. Maybe that’s a new business, but I’m not sure how to promote it to consumers that the data is better than everything else.

  1. Hi Scott,
Hope you don’t mind me responding to your post. I too have noticed odd things whenever you do a Google search for “Cuban Food.” As the owner of a gourmet specialty food company featuring easy-to-prepare, all-natural Cuban dishes that we ship Fedex Ground to your home, I’ve often puzzled over search engine results for “Cuban Food.” Chicago-area Cuban restaurants pop up on the screen whenever someone does a search for “Cuban Food.” Haven’t seen “Little Cesar’s” Pizza come up yet … but nothing surprises me! If you learn any more about the baffling nature of on-line searching for “Cuban Food,” I’ll send you a FREE sampler of our savory, all-natural meals. Buen provecho!

    1. Hi Julian,

I’d love to think that I had the answer to why Cuban food results are so mixed, but I don’t. I suspect it has to do with reviews where people mention Cuban food when they’re talking about something else. I’m disappointed that it isn’t easier to find good restaurants online even narrowing down the criteria. To make matters even worse, my wife and I are mainly vegetarian and only sometimes eat chicken and turkey, so add vegetarian to the search and the results getting even stranger!

I’m still looking for a Cuban restaurant for our 10th wedding anniversary on Friday. The choices aren’t looking promising. Maybe we’ll have to plan a trip to Miami for Cuban food!
